Hot spots and wounds

General

Every owner has dealt with it at one time or another. Your animal has a wound or a skin irritation.

A wound is a damage in the natural tissue of the skin or epidermis. During wound healing, the body tries to repair this barrier as quickly as possible. Usually, recovery is faster when using the right wound care. The skin often heals itself but with any damage in the skin, there is an increased risk of infection and therefore ever-present damage.

symptoms

Hotspots are often caused by the animal licking, scratching or biting a certain spot a lot. Some symptoms you can recognise hotspots by are;

  • Red skin (sometimes in combination with an abrasion)
  • Chapped skin
  • Warm to the touch of the skin
  • Etching of the skin
  • Sensitive skin

Diagnosis:

Hotspots can have several causes and usually occur on the head or abdomen but can occur all over the body. If a hotspot is left untreated, it may become inflamed or a bacterial infection may develop.

For this reason, it is very important to get the right diagnosis and treatment plan as soon as possible.
